Which Chinese app?
There are two Chinese apps which US is considering banning.
- Tiktok: TikTok, also known as Douyin in China. It is a social media platform for creating and sharing 10–15 seconds-long videos of singing, dancing, comedy, and lip-syncing. ByteDance owned this app, a Beijing-based Internet Technology company founded in 2012. If you are familiar with musically, then it is the same app with a different name. In 2017 ByteDance Ltd. acquired Musical.ly Inc. and merged it into TikTok in 2018. At the same time, Musical.ly Inc. changed its name to TikTok Inc., which introduced TikTok to a bigger, worldwide community.
- WeChat: It is an alternative to WhatsApp for Chinese people. It does the same things like sharing pictures, videos and chats. Other than that, It is not just an alternative; it is an essential app for Chinese people; it is their wallet, their source of communication to people in and outside China and. Tencent owned this app, a well known Chinese multinational company.
Because of China’s strict internet censorship, “Great Firewall of China,” WhatsApp is prohibited to use.
